The further adventures of Los Angeles? Counter Terrorism Unit?s finest initially sees Kiefer Sutherland?s Jack Bauer in a Chinese prison and not in good shape. But, this being 24, it?s not too long before the breakneck plot has revved into gear, and the wheels are turning again on a frantic real-time ride that?s thoroughly in the tradition of what?s become television?s finest thriller. You won?t be finding plot spoilers here, because half the fun of 24 is not knowing what unexpected twist the scriptwriters have for you around the next corner. All that matters is that the world is under threat, and it?s up to Jack Bauer to lead the fightback. And it?s Kiefer Sutherland that?s the real asset to series six; whereas particularly in season five he took a sideways step to accommodate stronger supporting characters, here he?s shouldering a greater degree of the show?s narrative thrust. You?d be hard pushed to declare that season six is vintage 24, but that?s more to do with the context of particularly the excellent run that preceded it. But few shows can match its audacious verve, and repeated ability to surprise and enthral. So while season six may have too many villains, and may ask you to bear with it through a few troughs, there?s still nothing out there to match it. Jump aboard?

Customer Review 1

Not as bad as all being made out. I would give this 4 1/2 stars if i could. I agree it is not as good as the others, because (as has been mentioned) most of the characters are not as strong as previous seasons. This storyline also contains the most implausable, ridiculous plotline of all the seasons. 24 has always had plotlines which borderline on unbelievable but we let them off because the show is that good. I think we should also let them off here too because the season is great, however there is just too much "oh come off it!!" about this one storyline that you never really forget how silly this is. So we have weaker characters (still strong nevertheless) and an unbelievable plot aspect but apart from that we have a classic 24 with terrific episodes and moments you will love as much as before. One thing i will say is that i love the ending, when Jack bears a bit of his soul and you really feel for him. It doesn't end explosively like the others but i really like the way they did this. Not too long for redemption and season 7 now, cannot wait.

Customer Review 2

Still worth watching.... Season Six of 24 opens some eighteen months after Season 5's diasterous finale in which Jack was captured and carted off to China. Sometime later, and Jack, visibly broken and dishevelled - is returned to the United States in exchange for a known terrorist. This is ultimately expected to end with Jack sacrificing himself, something Jack seems more than ready for, having been regularly abused and tortured at the hands of his sadistic captors. Without giving away the plot, I'll stick instead with how it compares against what was - for me a flawless Season 5, as well as earlier seasons... Day 6 is a slow burning season this time around. It takes a good six or seven hours for things to really get moving - somewhat different from earlier seasons where there were more twists and turns than anyone could handle, and season 5's explosive opener simply isn't matched - (well how could it be?) - and some might find themselves turning off at this early stage. The problem is with 24, is that it has been so good that the bar is now set impossibly high. With previous seasons dealing with assassination plots, nuclear weapons, bio viruses - its hard to top anything beyond nuclear, so don't expect much new. The season also reuses some familiar plot lines - spies in the White House? 25th Amendment? and there is a slight feel of Deja-Vu. The program also expects you to really disband reason to fantasy, as practically anywhere in the states now can seemingly be reached in twenty minutes - the world of 24's real time element gets lost, and annoying main characters seem to still be managing to hang on for far too long. So, you might wonder with all these minuses, how has it got four stars? Well, the good news is - despite the deja-vu, a couple of reused plot lines and a slow start, 24 hits its stride about seven-eight hours in. There are some genuinely shocking moments, and although Jack seems to be back to himself unrealistically quickly, his character is carried off with superb style by Kiefer Sutherland's incredible acting. Yes, season 6 is not like season 5 - but there's still plenty for Jack to get his teeth into yet - hopefully the delay on season 7 being released caused by the Writer's strike in America may have given everyone time to think over new directions to take the show in. So never fear fans - jack is certainly back - just not with quite the bang we're used to.

Customer Review 3

Bauers Back!. This was a great series and not weak at all (The weakest series is actually Day 1)!! and for us ladies Jack looked particularly Hot! Good strong perfomances and some old names. Keep it coming Guys, this has to be one of the best TV series ever screened.

Customer Review 4

Time for Jack Bauer to hang up his gun. I've watched all the 24's, and despite implausible plots, ridiculous timelines and unbelievable story lines I've enjoyed them all. However, I really think it's all getting a bit tired and series 6 is a struggle to get through. I mean, just how bad can CTU be before it's disbanded? Over 6 series they've been infiltrated (multiple times), blown up, gassed, allowed presidents to be assasinated, let multiple terrorist groups carry out massive attrocities (including multiple nuclear bombs) and been generally incompetent. Other than Jack, who always saves the day of course. The only other vaguely competent person is the ever disfunctional Chloe who seems to be the only person capable of operating a computer or satellite tracking system properly (what exactly does everyone else in that huge department actually do???!!!!). Lastly, just what form of time travel have CTU invented that allows them to travel such huge distances in such short periods? In the equivalent of an ad-break, cars seem to travel hundreds of miles. Agents who were at the brink of death being tortured, seem fresh as a daisy twenty minutes later and are back at their station...! In series 6, just hours after Jack struggles of a plane, weak and looking like Gandalf, he's charging around LA saving America just like the old days. We forgave all these flaws for 5 series, but really, S6 is getting plain ridiculous and they should quit while they're (just) ahead.

Customer Review 5

The best 24 season ever. I don't understand why so many are disappointed with season 6. In my humble view, it has the best written, most sophisticated script of the series. While all the plot twists and surprises and tension in previous seasons had been created with great skill and cleverness, the characters and events in is one is so authentic, it is as if the writers have matured over the course of the 6 series, and has had time to look into even deeper into the things that affect all of our lives - clear and present danger NOW. And the result - is beyond fab or brilliant. It is simply masterly. Daringly, it veers from the tried and true 24 formula of nonstop action to allow glimpses into the possibility of character change and redemption. Long may the series live, if it continues to produce TV like this....Nothing even comes close. And I just saw the much lauded DARK KNIGHT this afternoon, 24 season 6 makes Dark Knight's very excellent script ( despite its great Fx and acting) seem clunky and labored. I only hope the writers will continue to produce work that challenges us and not dilute their vision to please those who are blind to the merits of this series.
