A Beautiful Lie, the second studio album from 30 Seconds To Mars, was recorded in five different countries over a period of three years, in order to accommodate vocalist/guitarist Jared Leto's acting career. Yet the album is anything but disjointed. On the contrary, it's more consistent than its predecessor, 30 Seconds To Mars, as well as more confident, more personal (lyrically), and generally more mature. True, A Beautiful Lie relies heavily on Leto's dynamic vocals to lead the way. But lead single, "Attack," illustrates the more stripped down, radio-friendly sound of the band perfectly - as do tracks "The Kill," "Was it a Dream" and "From Yesterday". The band conjure up some slower, more kaleidoscopic moments ("A Modern Myth," for example), but A Beautiful Lie is largely a punchy project with a frisky mid-tempo pace and an engagingly sonorous aura. The only criticism would be the choice of Bjork?s "Hunter" as a song to cover: 30 Seconds To Mars are very far from doing the song - or themselves - justice here. However, the newly enhanced version of the album, with its re-recording of the "The Kill" and DVD featuring live performances and MTV2 moments, help make up for any occasional blips.

Lovely. I brought this album on the recomendation of a friend. At the tit it wouldn't have been an ablum i would have sought out to buy. However after listening to a few tracks on the band's myspace I decided it was worth purchasing. I have not been dissapointed with this album. There are some beautifully writen songs with slightly quirky lyrics that seem to be a constant throughout the album.
Jared Leto has improved greatly on his vocals from previous album, which I have since listened to also. His voice comes across well with times of vocal perfection and other of a slight shout that would be expected from rock music. The band have managed to get the balance between the importance of vocal lines and the melodies behind. Though the majority of songs follow the classic structure of a song they still manage to be induvidual and 30 Seconds to Mars have created an Album ture to themselves, though still with comercial appeal.

What an apt title!!. Well they're not wrong!! The whole album from these guys is a sham!!
Usless college puhnk made for whiney teenagers with big hair, too much make up and small pumps. And that's just the male fans!!
Sounds exactly the same as their previous album (boring) and is not an evolution of the band at all. Partly I assume because the actor needs to pursue his art (ahem!) but also because they rely on cover versions such as Bjork's "Hunter"
Useless turgid earache.

All I can say is.....WOW....... I had previously noticed a band called 30 Seconds to Mars being advertised etc but had never actually listened to any of their songs until a month ago. The first song I hear was A Beautiful Lie...and I was hooked....since then I have bought both albums and have not regretted it.
Not only are their albums great but their video clips are brilliantly done. Jared Leto is a very talented actor/musician and has a genuinely brilliant voice which he displays not only on the albums but also live.
I would love to see them perform someday
