The best read in ages. A Thousand Splendid Suns
I have just read this 400+words book and savoured every word. What a fantastic storyteller Hosseini is. At the end of every chapter, I wanted to read the next as they flow into each other.
It is a beautifully told story of love, war, injustices to women and a world that is totally unfamiliar to me - a Westerner. I learned so much from it.
I can't wait to get my hands on his first book now, 'The Kite Runner.'
Customer Review 4
I thought Kite Runner was good, this is even better. This is a heart rending tale of two women living through the political anarchy of Afghanistan over the last fifty years. We in the west should hang our heads in shame for the part we have played in this nightmare. I thought Kite Runner was excellent but it is a pale shadow set against this beautifully crafted tale.
You engage 100% with the characters and their impossible lives. I challenge you not to be moved to tears through parts of this book. The abuse they accept as part of their daily lives is made commonplace in this environment. The injustice of it all, the shameless chauvanism of the men - beyond arrogance. This book changes perspectives and, believe me, they need changing!!
