Top Amazon Review

Acer Aspire One. Bought two Acer Aspire Ones from Amazon on 6th of december 2008 as Xmas presents for my children. First one packed in on the 3rd of January after 9 days use and the second packed in 2 days later. I now have to recover both netbooks and start them from scratch. According to other reviews on the net this probably wont solve the problems that occurred. Absolute nightmare.

Customer Review 1

Acer Aspire One A110. Lovely looking netbook, quality build and looking at the specs and times everything seems OK. I bought two for my daughters at Christmas and they loved them.........Until that was they went on messenger and it had a protocol issue and wouldn't work. I went on Acer's site which is completely useless as is all the info that comes with the 'one'. Went on the forums which said to update the software, which I did, but that kept failing(on both). Eventually reinstalled linpus from a USB drive and then updated twice, which took about 12 hours. Eventually everything was working and once again my daughters loved them. After spending years working on Windows PC's linux is completely different and a lot more difficult. Bottom line is they're great when working but a pain when not. If the windows version was SSD and cheaper I'd go for that. Acer could do with updating their support for this netbook so people didn't have to rely on forums. Their supplied DVD for backup is sooo out of date and there's no updated DVD to download.

Customer Review 2

Superb for what it is. I just bought my acer-one from amazon and fell in love with it straight away. I got the blue A110-Ab linux 512mb, 8gb flash drive version for £170. Despite never having owned a linux-based OS before, I was able to get this machine running and connected to my wi-fi within 5 minutes of opening the box. The acer-one linux setup and main screens are really easy to follow. The keyboard is nice like a fuller-sized laptop's. I clicked on the wi-fi icon and it showed me available signals, so I selected mine and gave it the password and it connected instantly to my house router despite my sitting 60 feet away in the shed at the end of the garden! The screen is very crisp, bright and clear, and machine is quiet, lightweight and very pretty. The power adapter is not as big as a standard laptop's (as a previous reviewer somewhat misleadingly stated) but is only about a third the size (compared to my current acer laptop and previous toshiba ones anyway). My one minor gripe is the left and right "mouse" (actually a touchpad) button keys, which are a tad small for my big fingers (surprisingly so seeing as the rest of the keyboard buttons are such a nice size), but I'm getting quickly used to them. And the touchpad and other settings all seemed fine straight out of the box. I've also watched a couple of BBC news videos on it and played a couple of the pre-loaded games and find the processor, memory, graphics and video ability fine and smooth, and the sound was ok. And even at only 512mb the system seems quick (thanks to this being a lite linux and not windows xp or vista I guess). I think, like some reviewers have said and potential buyers should note: this is only a netbook and not a full-sized, full-featured and easily customisable laptop. You could buy the windows version and the bigger hard-drive for this netbook, ok, but it seems to me the further you go down such a route you'll be spending almost enough for a small laptop - so why not buy one of them instead? With this machine you get all the basics - internet (firefox browser), email, webcam, word-processor, spreadsheets and presentations, a few games, a film and a music player and a photo manager. You also get an instant messenger, hotmail and google maps links already set up. And you get Paint (like MSPaint), a calender (like MS Outlook calender) and managers for your contacts, RSS, document files and downloads. And all of it in a tiny machine the size and weight of a hard-back novel.

Peter's Review. Acer Aspire One A110-ab Netbook Over view first impressions are very good. sold feel nice key board quick start just 20 seconds for the desktop to come up and 55 seconds to connect to the web. Review If you are looking for something that is easy to carry around and fast to connect to the web and has basic programmes then this little machine could be the one for you. If you require something more flexible then go for the windows based version. I have read most of the reviews and would say i don't think the battery life is that bad around about 2 hours on standard setting and in normal use. It may be possible to make it last longer if you change the setting. This machine comes with a separate SD slot for extending the memory which merges together when you put a SD card in. It also has a multi-card reader so you can down load pictures etc. Pen drives seem to work fine. Printing may prove a problem. BBC programmes can watched ok but ITV is a different story. writing can prove a little difficult due to the size of the writing and can lead to spelling mistakes. Please don;t get the idea this is a bad machine it is worth the money in my view this machine is an ideal second computer/notebook ideal for quick internet access and on the move but for all other applications I woudn't be without windows.

Customer Review 4

Small IS good!. I've been in possession of the Acer Aspire One Netbook for just 24 hours, but I can honestly say it's BRILLIANT! I'd read the mixed reviews about the OS, but if you want internet access (nothing fancy!) and email, it's just the job. Also, I accessed a PDF presentation file from a memory stick and it read it no problems. The size and the weight on the machine is almost unbelievable and the key board is more than useable, even for someone like me with banana fingers!!! The only negatives...and I'm being very picky....are it is a bit of a finger mark magnet and the UK style power lead is somewhat bulky, although I will be trading it in for a US/Japan 2 pin plug version for my travels soon. The power supply is nice and small although a mobile phone style plug head version would be better: Come on Acer, fix it! Would I recommend it? You bet I would! UPDATE Now had this Netbook for a month and just had my first problem! It lost all network connections (icon) and I was unable to access the Network Center (manager) Having found a very useful Acer users forum, I discovered that this is a common problem and my advise is; don't bother with any of the 'cures' suggested nor call the Acer techies' (their 'cure' didn't work) as the only way round this is a complete restore using the recovery disc. Don't be put off making a USB memory stick recovery file as its easy (using another pc or laptop with disc drive).
