160GB. I am very happy with this little laptop, i have only had a few hours to play with it but it seems to be working fine. getting it working on the wireless was painless (the wireless range seems very good, where other laptops in the house can bearly get a signal, and this little tiptop is saying a 80% signal)and finding my way through the OS seems easy enough. it has all the basic software needed, free equivelents of word, powerpoint and excel. firefox works well, but will look into see if i can install opera as i like that better.
PLays dvds well with the use of a usb dvd drive,
the linux os seems capable enough, but at a later date i will probably install xp, so i can run windows based programs.
one further point,
my brother and i both ordered this laptop, dispite it saying on the box it has a 120GB hard drive, it really has a westen digital 160GB drive, in bios it states the hard drive is a WD1600(someletters) and in the my files section in the os, it says i have 135GB of hard drive space left.
cant complain :)
Very Happy
Customer Review 1
Wow, this is unbelieveable. My daughter bought me this little gem for Christmas and I have to say that it is the best computer I have ever owned. Do not ditch Linux as it is far more stable than windows and once you get used to it you will never return to windows.I cannot say a bad word about this machine and I totally recommend it.
Customer Review 2
Very pleased with the aspire one . I have had the aspire one for a couple of weeks now and i think it is better than my more expensive toshiba notebook. the design and build quality seems good especially for the price. i also purchased the 120gb version but when it came it had 160gb HDD even when it said 120gb on the box.
the supplied linpus os is ok for a new user to linux that just wants to try it out but it is not easy to tweak it with all the latest software packages but there is some excellent guides on the web to do this.
i have personally replaced the linpus os with fedora 10 and it is working alot better and easier to update, add/remove software and other things people like to do on them.
there is other good linux operating systems out there like ubuntu, and i have read that mandriva 2009 gnome works well on it as well.
i have only given this 4 stars because the linpus os is limiting.
Customer Review 3
Surprisingly Good. Had one of these for about 3 weeks now and I'm very pleased with it.
I bought the 1gb Linux system one and when it arrived it came with a 160GB hard drive instead of a 120GB Hard drive (even said 120gb on the box but 160gb was in it).
My intention was to get rid of linux and put XP on it so after a little play with linpus lite I read up on the net of how to put windows XP on it as I didnt own an external CD Drive.
Relatively easy to do using a memory card (and usb reader) 1GB.
Having made my card bootable and created a bootable XP using my XP disc it took about 30 mins max to install a full version of XP (not a nlite version)
Please note had a lot of problems getting XP on the card using a vista OS so tried a XP OS and worked fine
Once Installed I switched off system restore to save resources and XP runs great.
All XP drivers are available at the acer website.
I watched my daughter use it the other day. She had MSN going, playing an internet based game, and had a film running in the background all at the same time. Nothing ran slow... Very impressed.
Boot up time was about 4 seconds slower than the linux OS but still faster than my desktop 4gb AMD dual core 5200+ now its full of rubbish.
If ur thinking of one of these but not sure about linux then putting XP on it is easy - you will lose your backup partition but u get a recovery CD anyway
Customer Review 4
Sweet machine but has limitations. This is a light compact machine with an absolutely satisfactory keyboard. Its a pleasure to use and I think it will travel a lot with me. Its preloaded with firefox browser and messaging software. Its also fitted with Openoffice which is absolutely good for any work uses and is compatible with word, powerpoint etc. The screen is bright and clear and plays video and cams well.
The touchpad is perfectly usable but is a bit fiddly so I plan to get a small usb mouse.
The main problem relates to the linux operating system. Acer have fitted a desktop which is clear and intuitive for the prefitted software. However, there are no instructions anywhere for how to load other programmes (even though you have a 120Gb disk to fill). Linux, as distinct from the fitted desktop, is not intuitive at all. You need to press alt-F2 to get to Linux but you're not told this anywhere. Even when you do locate and download a linux version of a programme you still need to do some programming in order to install it and make it work. I haven't been able to find a step by step instructions for dummies on how to do this.
Therefore I would recommend to pay the extra for the XP version unless you want to use the netbook just for browsing, word processing and messaging.
