A superb gift set. I bought this as a gift for my wife who loves Joan Hickson as Miss Marple. Now, I'd read about the deleted scenes etc., but threw caution to the wind and ordered anyway.
It was a safe bet it turned out, because she was over the moon, and having watched every single one now, has made zero comments about lost scenes. That's not to say there have not been cuts, but if there have been, they did not spoil her enjoyment. It could be that the ones she has seen on TV recently already had the scenes cut, I don't know. All I do know is, this is a bargain for what you get, just like the Poirot Collection she is working her way through now!

OUTSTANDING JOAN HICKSON. Firtsly, not sure what the other buyers are going on about as my DVD box set has not been cut to ribbons and shows exactly what the original transmission shows.
Lastly THIS is the definitive Miss Marple. Shame on the AC Foundation allowing ITV to handle current comedy episodes.

The Dutch subtitles or the edited version??. Being a massive Miss Marple fan I am torn between buying the one that has been cut to pieces or one that has Dutch subtitles?? Does anyone have any thoughts as to the best one to purchase??

Edited scenes. I have had confirmation from BBC worldwide that indeed there is some editing of some scenes. Which is quite deplorable especially in a detective series as it certainly spoils it when the explanation of the plot is not fully realised. Why, Oh Why, must they do this as otherwise this set is excellent. I wonder If the BBC still can't seem to look after its archive as in the past it has wiped things that would have been a good source of revenue.

It looks as though you'll be better off getting the Dutch set.. I'm a fan of Joan Hickson's Miss Marple, but if what the other reviewers are saying is true and the stories have been reduced to fit onto the discs, then you'll be better off getting the much cheaper and complete series on the Dutch set available elsewhere on Amazon. I have it and it is wonderful. Why pay more? Especially if you're paying much more, and for a reduced version, when you can have the complete set for much less money and with all stories complete.
