I guess I was lucky!. I am writing this review very belatedly, because I have had a machine like this for just on five years, and it's still going, although it might be on its last legs now. I bake at lease five one-and-a-half pound loaves in it every week, three wholemeal seeded and two white (both to my own recipes, gained from experience). I also use it to produce dough for other breads I bake by hand, pizzas, focaccia (usually with olives and sundried tomatoe) (both flat loaves and rolls), brown rolls and various other recipes, included my machine version of bara brith. So, in all it is used virtually every day and often two or three times if I am baking a batch, and it has never missed a beat. As I write, it is baking my second loaf of today. I guess it must have been used at least 2,000 times. Yes, the paintwork started to look a bit flaky after about six months, but it is not an ornament, it is a kitchen implement, and my saucepans aren't without their scratches and dents either. The thing is, I just don't throw the ingredients in and expect the machine to be perfect every time. I use a little care and a little thought. The people who complained about flour being left at the corners - you were probably light on water. I always lift the lid to have a look after about five minutes of kneading. If it looks too dry, add a bit of hot water, if it looks sloppy, spoon in some extra flour. Tip the machine sideways so that the dough picks up any loose flour. Just experiment. The recipes in any book are generally for guidance and most cooks, and bakers, tweak things themselves to get the results they want. I said mine was probably on its last legs. The motor still works, the element still works, but the pan leaks very slightly, because I imagine the seals are wearing out. But it still works. The people who have had all those problems must have been unfortunate to get a bad 'un. I have no complaints and will order another when mine finally packs up.

Good enoughm, not brilliant. I have had this product for over 2 years. I get better results especially with white bread by using the Panasonic recipe. The outside got splashed by Flash and the silver peeled off in places. I think the bread pan is too wide and I consistently get unmixed corners on bread. However, with modified recipes the results are OK. I regularly overload the machine to make 24 rolls by using the Panasonic recipe with 1kg flour. I load all the ingredients apart from the yeast, take out 1/2 cup flour then premix all the rest of the ingredients then balance the yeast on top of the flour previously removed. This way I can make lots of dough!

The Machine broke down after two years and it is not repairable. I too had the same problems. It broke down after 2 years and Breville does not repair it. So, we now have to throw it away (?) as no one can fix it. Do not buy this machine if you want one that last!

Customer Review 3

MAKES GREAT BRICKS FOR HOUSEBUILDING. I replaced my ancient Panasonic with this one only because of the large loaf size. Yesterday I joyfully unwrapped it and set about baking my first loaf. Watching through the illuminated viewing window all my older children kept saying "mum, it looks horrible!" Following the white bread recipe for the largest loaf, read out to me and checked stage by stage by my niece, I was aghast at just how much sugar you were supposed to add - 4 tablespoons.... I chose the dark crust. The bottom half of the bread did have a dark crust but the top was positively anaemic. It tasted sweet with a heavy doughy consistency - most unpleasant. I have already contacted the store who are collecting it on Tuesday and have given me a full refund as it is not fit for the purpose - I wanted edible bread, not stodgy house bricks. I have just ordered the replacement for my dear old Panasonic, which kept going for over 6 years without a hitch. The new Panasonic will be here on Tuesday. You have been warned.

Customer Review 4

Can only agree with other reviewers. This machine broke down after less than a year's use; flashing 'E05' on the display. I consulted the faults page in the handbook which told me to phone the number appropriate to my location. I did this and the nice lady on the end of the phone said, "Well, for that fault you should turn the machine off and then on again. If it works it's fixed, if it's still flashing E05 it's broken and we can't fix it." They could have printed THAT in the handbook; saved me a phone call. I later bought a budget machine from Aldi or Lidl for a quarter of this price which works perfectly well.
