The best mouse for Apple computers

Rated Rated 5 out of 5 by O. H. Gonzalez, Ashford, Kent, England on 22nd July 2010

The magic mouse it is not only the most eye-catching mouse in the market, but also it integrates with your Mac perfectly. It recognised my MBP immediately, and since the first day, it has never disconnected from it. It is ultra-reliable. I haven't had any issues with the battery. The best feature is its multitouch potential, because it can replicate functions of MBP trackpads by using apps like BetterTouchTool. You just have to hold the mouse correctly, and it won't cause you any tendonitis or pain. I don't understand why people want to use the magic mouse in windows computers.

Natt

You need driver version 3.0.0.6 for true Windows users (boot camp windows users can find this more easily than normal windows users). The one Windows installs by default doesn't give you up and down scrolling and the "hacked" ones give terrible drop outs every few minutes. So I figured that if it can work without drop outs (if not with scroll function) then it wasn't a hardware issue and started searching for different drivers. If you just connect you'll have driver version 3.0.0.5 and this will drive you nuts. So now it is working... Well "right click" is still a bit hit and miss, to the point of annoyance. I'll be keeping by Razor for gaming but for day to day t'internet and the beauty of the thing it can now stay, because it does now stay connected at least.

Another great Apple product

Rated Rated 5 out of 5 by D. Watson, Devon, England on 16th July 2010

The scroll ball on my Mighty Mouse is beginning to stick, and despite what Apple say it is difficult to clean, so touch scrolling is a dream, particularly with momentum, though the two-fingered flick to change web pages takes a little getting used to. I have found no problem in clicking and dragging. I can lift the mouse easily while keeping the top depressed; much less strain than on older mice where you had to keep the sides squeezed together. I haven't had the mouse long enough to judge the battery life, but I would comment that when the supplied alkaline cells die, I intend to replace them with lithium, which I have found very long-lasting on my old wireless mouse.

Apple not-so-Magic Mouse

Rated Rated 1 out of 5 by BlottoMac on 15th July 2010

This is a really nicely made object, as far as objects go. It's incredibly well crafted, feels good to hold (as an object), looks sensational and is a must-have if you like to fill your desk with all the latest high-tech gadgets and futuristic-looking products. But, as a mouse, I'm afraid I just didn't get on with it. I don't find it too flat, as many have, and I don't find the touch-sensitive areas hard to get accustomed to. But I did find two things that I really didn't like and which, sadly, lead me to give Magic Mouse only one star. First, it seems highly inaccurate, to the point of being cumbersome, in terms of being able to easily control fine cursor movements (e.g. when drawing or making very fine selections; it's just too jerky, and lacks the level of fine on-screen control that Mighty Mouse is so good at. This may have much to do with its weight (it's NOT light!) and the additional effort needed to overcome 'mousemat friction'. It's shape doesn't help either: I found it VERY uncomfortable to hold and use for long periods, and it completely lacks that almost ecstatic feeling of smoothness-in-the-hand, that is characteristic of Mighty Mouse which, by comparison, feels somewhat more natural to hold. And this brings me on to my second point. The not-so-Magic Mouse has a sharp edge, all around the outer edge where your hand and fingers hold on to it. Aesthetically, it looks the business. But I found this makes it very uncomfortable to hold for long periods, and it always leaves a red mark on my hand and fingers after even a short while. This just left me longing once again to pick up my lightweight and smoothly rounded Mighty Mouse which, by comparison, I find so natural to hold and manoeuvre. Even my wireless Mighty Mouse, with the additional weight of the batteries, is for me a more efficient and comfortable all-round contender, whilst my black, 2006 Dell two-button+scroll USB mouse absolutely rocks in comparison when it comes down to comfort. Despite the Magic Mouse being a beautiful-looking object made from excellent quality materials and produced to some very fine tolerances (full marks for looks and overall quality of manufacture), and despite all the additional high-tech functionality, I'm afraid that, as a mouse for everyday use, it only gets a one star rating from me.

Magic?

Love the wireless concept - hate the mouse. I like the roller ball on the original mac mouse so wouldn't recommend this product. Too much moving across the table/mat for me! Although is probably better if you have wrist issues from using a roller ball too much!Apple Magic Mouse

Does What It Says ... With Style!

Rated Rated 5 out of 5 by G. Mutch on 7th July 2010

I'm just a basic lap top user - internet, spreadsheets, typing - so have no specialist needs. I read the reviews and went to the Mac shop not sure if I wanted one of these or not. Any doubts were overcome when I used the Magic Mouse! It feels right in the palm of the hand and to use. From the start it felt that I'd been using it for years, no adjustments needed. Of course, the main purpose of a mouse is functionality - the added bonus about the Magic mouse is that it looks cool, not something I'd usually be too concerned with, but like all things Mac it looks great.

Wonderfull!

Rated Rated 5 out of 5 by A. Antypas on 19th June 2010

I don't get it when people write bad reviews on products because the battery depleted, which is something that has nothing to do with the actual product itself. This is a great mouse, works great with my MacBook Pro, battery is still at 70%, it does what is says on the tin and it looks and feels great. I recommend it if you are working on excel sheets, makes things slightly easier when you need "right click" functionality.

Gorgeous but pretty useless

Rated Rated 4 out of 5 by Ionescu Silviu, Timisoara, Romania on 14th June 2010

Looks gorgeous but it doesn't quite feel like a mouse. You need a decent time to get used to it to be able to really use it.

Magic mouse is too magical

Rated Rated 3 out of 5 by Vickery on 7th June 2010

I loved the idea of this thing. The technology is awesome. A touch surface mouse. The surface worked excellent BUT the overall mouse did not work so great. Even with the sensitivity turned all the way up I felt like i had to work to use it. Constantly lifting arm.

Superb technology

Rated Rated 5 out of 5 by Alison, Derbyshire, UK on 4th June 2010

I bought this to use with my MacBook Pro and have been really pleased from the start. It's a lovely looking thing, as you would expect from Apple, but it's also highly functional and intuitive. It has various gesture based actions built in but if you want more functions and programmable functions, you can download the free "MagicPrefs" application from either the Apple website or the MagicPrefs website. The MagicPrefs application has numerous options and custom settings including other gestures and shortcut settings. I've also found the standard settings for the tracking speed and touch sensitivity to be perfect for my use. I've not experienced any false clicks or gestures so far. I find the positioning is fine despite the low profile and the weight is nice. You can switch it off when it's not in use, so remember to do this between uses to avoid wasting the batteries. I'm really pleased with it and would recommend it to other Mac users.
