PSP - assorted ramblings.. I wanted to upgrade my kid's GBA SP. Really enjoyed the little handheld, but the new DS and the PSP looked like they were offering some pretty impressive options. I spent absolutely ages trawling the web, reviews and homebrew sites. Ended up buying both a DS and a PSP - second-hand. Then bought a few second-hand games for each. I really wanted to prefer the DS. At the time, it was easier to use homebrew stuff on it, had a mass of cheap games available, had the touch-screen/2-screen set-up and had some pretty innovative, accessible and fun games. There are a lot of DS games you can just plug in and immediately start to play. The PSP is a much more 'closed' system than the DS. At first the range of games were limited and I wasn't interested in the movies option. It doesn't have the quirks - like touch screen, which allow the DS to effectively run stuff like 'Brain Train'. However, the newer games like 'God of War' have no equal on the DS. For graphics, performance and outright power, the PSP is king of the consoles. I've since sold the DS and kept the PSP. The DS isn't a bad console, but the PSP totally owns it as a games machine. I'm writing having had experience of both and from a perspective of someone who initially thought the DS would win hands-down.

The Truth . I own a PSP (bought it off a friend for £80!) There where a couple of 1 star reviews for this product which compelled me to write a review. The good: Connects to the internet & IT'S EASY TO DO! (I even assigned mine a static IP address. Prevents IP address conflicts with my other wireless devices.) Games look brilliant & play great on it. Plays MP3 & WMA. Plays Videos UMD, MP4s from memory card (so you can download movies from PSN/unilimitedpspmovies.com etc) or convert your your own. USB conects to your Pc for SIMPLE file transfer of your media content. Mine came with software to do this but i've never used it. My 12 year old daughter WITHOUT any problems transfers from her laptop using Vista.. pictures, videos, music. On the PSP she surfs the net, chats on MSN & does what most 12 going on 13 year olds do with a PSP!... have fun! Can also be used as a remote game pad for PS3. Connects to your PS3 and streams wirelessly media from PS3 Hdd (I watch my HD movies in bed this way on my PSP). This can be done from anywhere in the world via an internet connection, so no more crappy hotel TV! Play against other PSP owners via the internet or AD Hoc. It's absolutely gorgeous! It has Loco Roco! LOL The Bad: No hard drive need to buy a memory card (4GB will be more than enough) amazon uk £22.95 Volume with headset plugged in is a bit low. If your thinking of buying one for a child I'd look at the nintendo DS instead because their games seem to be targeted more for that age group than PSP. If however it's for an adult or teenager it's a great buy & you can't go wrong!

PSP ROCKS !. Nice pice of kit only problem is the anyoning anolog stick. i would reccomed SWBF2 as it is almost as good as the ps2 version. legand graphics for size of console only your hands get really sweat and the palm rest get sticky. would recoomend u put it in a case to protect the screen. would recommend over ds as it is a simmiler price has cheaper games and wayyyyyyyyyyyyy better graphics! nice console, ace cristmas pressie!!

Customer Review 3

Brilliant!. Is actually much sturdier feeling than the slim version and has a lovely screen and an enormous range of games

Customer Review 4

The PSP - A Games Machine and More. I've owned one of these older model PSPs for nearly a year now. The PSP is touted for games, films, images, music and internet access, so I'll split my review into these 5 parts. Games - I own Tekken DR, Wipeout Pure and Pro Evolution Soccer 6. They're all enjoyable and I like being able to play them anywhere in the house or lying on my bed - that's the advantage of a portable console. Although load times aren't super fast, a huge advantage the PSP has is that you can turn it off and when you turn it back on, the game is in exactly the same place. Graphics are excellent - you won't get any better than this on a portable console any time soon. I'm looking forward to Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. Films - Films can be bought quite cheaply. The image quality and sound are good. A portable DVD player is probably a slightly better option for films, as DVDs are cheaper than UMDs in general, and also because you're likely to get a bigger screen. But I'm perfectly happy with the film capabilities. Images - Stores and displays pictures fine. Apparently there is a camera add-on, but given how cheap digital cameras have become it would probably be a bit pointless. Music - Plays mp3s and wmas. Doesn't play anything off itunes. Too big to use as a portable mp3 player really, and the battery life doesn't match up to a dedicated device. Nonetheless nice that it has this option. Internet - Pretty good actually. Especially handy if your home has wi-fi. The only thing missing is a full keyboard (inputting text is very fidgety), and also a greater horizontal resolution would display webpages much better. Maybe something to think about for the the PSP 2, Sony? Overall it does a lot for the money you spend. Recommended.
