The 802.11g WAP connects to your network switch and lets you join your wireless-equipped PCs to your wired network. It is based on breakthrough 802.11g technology that makes wireless file transfers and downloads faster than ever before. 802.11g technology provides you with networking speeds nearly five times faster than the current Wi-Fi (802.11b) standard. When connected to a gateway, the WAP can increase your network's coverage area and allow you to take advantage of expanded wireless roaming capabilities. Once you've done the simple setup, you can share data and peripherals, as well as a single Internet account among all your computers. 802.11g technology is the easiest wireless network to implement. The Access Point uses the wireless 802.11g 2.4GHz standard to offer you the widest working range-up to 1500 feet -and greater interoperability in mixed networking environments. 802.11g technology is backward-compatible with the 802.11b Wi-Fi networking standard, so it allows you to implement faster wireless technologies in combination with existing 802.11b Wi-Fi networks. An added Turbo Mode feature isolates your network from 802.11b wireless clients and allows your network to transmit data at the highest 802.11g data rate, 54Mbps.
Bought this for my 6 YO Dell Inspiron 8600 running Windows XP (with Broadcom Wifi card built in). Ubuntu users will know there is a problem running Broadcom cards and so in the end out of frustration with the slow pace of the laptop under XP I bought this card to use Ubuntu. It worked immediately out of the box (connects to my Belkin 802.11G WiFi Router) and I've had no problems at all over the several weeks I have used it. Highly recommended, and the laptop now flies as new.
Linux Ver. - ubuntu 9.04 - it is supposed to be the best OS around! Wireless - Netgear Laptop Advent with 1 Giga RAM I would put the card in, and not do anything. When both lights on card are on. Just click the wireless connection, which Ubuntu found - it worked with no driver! I would not even try to create a network, then it does not work. The card also works with XP Pro, as I use dual boot, I can run both systems with this card.
Installed Belkin 802.11g version 7021 Wireless card as instructed. I was assurred this card was compatible with OS WIN98SE. Software loaded ok, but the Network adapters and drivers wouldn't load and the Laptop was unable to find the card hardware. The card never displayed any power lights. Even after downloading new software from Belkin support for this version 7 it failed to work. I've spent nearly 2 days trying to install this hardware with endless emails to Belkin Support, but still no joy. I'll keep trying, but my patience is slowly running out!!
When the card works its really good. I was getting good range and signal stregth in a building where there are a lot of dead spots. I bought this to upgrade my laptop to G from B WiFi, using the unused PCMCIA slot, however I am now back using the built in 802.11B as it's more reliable than this card proved to be. On my machine - running Win XP Pro - there seemed to be horrible driver clashes that meant on booting sometimes the card wasn't recognised, or sometimes the card would just disable while it was in use. Very frustrating. I've since discovered that some of the issues may have been conflicts with good old Windows Wireless-Zero Config, but to be honest, I would still have hoped the card would have worked better. The software was nice and easy to install, and is an improvement over the build in Windows wireless control, its just doesn't seem to be stable enough for me to have carried on using this. With a bit of effort I may have been able to resolve the issues, but with somethig like this I shouldn't have had to spend time getting it to work - it /should/ be plug and play. Plug it in, install drivers, select wireless network, enter encryption key and go. That should be it. With this card it wasn;t, so now its gathering dust.
Its an okay product. I do have an old laptop, so I'm not sure if its the card or the laptop but every time I turn off the laptop and turn it back on again, the card stops working and I have to reinstall the drivers. The card also receives weaker signal than my Nintendo DS does, which is not a good sign. If I were you, I'd buy something else.
I would like to warn anyone away from buying this item, although it picks up a good range and the set up is simple enough, it struggles to maintain a connection and at times cannot connect at all even when in very close range. I had this card for a week and had problems every single time I connected to the internet. I took this back to the shop and instead bought the Netgear WG511 V2 from Amazon which was actually cheaper as has worked perfectly every single time I have used it. Set up was easy and range is always a full signal so save yourself some time and avoid the belkin product.
This product has no range on it even though I have a belkin wireless router and being in the same room as it
I purchased this item because i wanted to take my laptop to work. The software was easy to install. Also the manual was easy to follow. However this item did not work. My computer could detect other networks, but it did not detect the Belkin connection???????? I tried it three times and even tried installing it in my neighbors laptop,no joy so I am sending it back to the seller.
I found this wireless card extremely easy to install. All I had to do was click 'Install' and 'Finish' and it was pretty much working straight away, which is great because installing these things can sometimes be a bit of a nightmare!
Despite a few negative comments about this card, i found installing it simplicity itself. Follow the straightforward instructions, works first time with bt homehub. Have now been using for a month with no problems at all.
