Terry Pratchett's Discworld is, perhaps unsurprisingly given the game's title, the setting for this point-and-click romp which combines the best elements of Bogart-esque Private Eye movies with the best-known fantasy environment in the world. The game follows the trials and tribulations of the Discworld's first PI as he takes on his first case--a missing persons job on behalf of a darkly mysterious female client who's husband has gone walkies. It's pretty standard adventure fare with pointing and clicking aplenty as the case unravels, villains are revealed and outrageously long FMV sequences disturb the flow of the plot.OK, so far it doesn't sound that good, right? But perseverance is the name of the game and I couldn't help but find myself getting drawn further into the plot to the point where it became impossible to leave it alone. The major draw in this title is the obvious input from Pratchett himself. The characters really bring this game to life, mixing the new--such as Lewton the private eye and main character with the old--Nobby Nobbs of the City Guard, Death and the Grim Squeaker--a hilarious character who is actually the Death of Rats.Comedy abounds here, from the obvious to the incredibly subtle and there is plenty going on to keep you playing for quite a while. At the end of the day, this is more suited to the Discworld fan then to someone looking idly around for an adventure game to fill in a couple of hours, but with it's budget price thanks to an Infogrames re-release, Discworld Noir is a good purchase.

Good for fans. I do enjoy the Pratchett sense of humour and this game doesnt disappoint in that respect. I giggled a lot during the game - like all point and click games I got a bit frustrated that I couldnt "get" what I should do next but thank goodness for walkthroughs. The graphics are pretty good and I just loved the Grim Squeaker. The characters do not disappoint and there is a good story line to follow. Im glad I bought it and would recommend it to anyone.

Totally Devout Pratchett Fans Only. I bought this last year mainly for my girlfriend who loved Terry Pratchett, though the original discworld game was good fun, I played it for half and hour and it is awful, but I've never really been into Pratchetts stuff. Then my girlfriend played it and also hated it then all my friends played it insisting that I only hated it because I didn't "understand" Pratchett, one of them sat there all day before admitting it was rubbish, it does however have pretty much everything you expect from discworld.I've given it one star because I do think it is truly awful but my message is really that only buy this if you truly LOVE Pratchett's stuff, because the strength of the game is in the in jokes, as an actual game it isn't as good as the likes of Broken Sword. You're gonna love this or hate it

Casablanca meets the discworld. Discworld Noir is an excellent if time consuming puzzle. The atmosphere is superbly gloomy and the quest is so convoluted it could drive you insane were it not for the typical Pratchett humour. The plot takes a tilt at computer games and the film noir genre but never loses track of the fact that it still has to stand on its own merits. The only drawbacks are some bugs in the plot that makes it important to have some games saved (at one point it is possible to pick up an item another character already has and an essential plot theme can't take place) and the game play somtimes lacks consistency so a simple solution escapes you for days. All part of the charm. That said, the graphics, the plot, the atmosphere, the whole damn thing, makes it well worth the price.

Great Game. What a great game!!!!Having played discworld on the pc and then discworld 2 on the playstation i was a bit dubious about the whole private eye idea. The game is absolutely great the whole idea around it and the way that they have placed a few of the old characters names and faces into it was brilliant. Although i am only half way through playing the game i can only hope that the end of the game will not be a let down like the end of discworld 2.

Good, but the software needs patching. This is a remarkable extension to the Discworld genre, far removed from the insanely difficult Discworld game and the slightly easier Discworld II. Written in conjunction with Pterry himself, this is the dark (and very film noir) tale of a private eye called Lewton and his trawl through Ankh-Morpork's dark underbelly. Every single movie cliche is there - the femme fatale, the death threats, the complicated plot, the insane old buffer in a wheelchair. Involving, beautiful and very well acted (apart from a duff accent on the hero himself), this is a top notch adventure game. The only thing that stops it getting five stars is the instability of the software, which required several re-instals and badly needs patching (not very likely now that the developers have gone bust). Nonetheless, rewarding and wonderful if you have the patience.
