utstanding game but...,

Rated Rated 4 out of 5 by Jena Malone on 3rd September 2010

The graphics in this game are awesome. Some of the best I have seen in a game. If you are a big online multiplayer (XBOX Live), they still have some of the same issues as they had before that make it frustrating to play. (ie. respawning near or in front of enemy units, guns that take too many shots at close range to kill, and more.) The campaing is fun. But, I think once I am finished, I'll be back to playing the multiplayer on COD:WAW.

Real Enough

Rated Rated 4 out of 5 by Mr. J. F. Clarke, England on 30th August 2010

This comes from someone who played Halo franchise first. - I understand why this is the alternative. Yes, there is good reason as to why the Call of duty series is a competitor to Halo, many reasons in fact. Its just the 'fan boy' camaraderie that wee's a little bit on the image of both titles. Both eager to detest the other. COD:MW2 is realistic. At least, compared to other 1st person shooters, featuring a wide array of actual weapons used today in warfare and no doubt sound like the real deal (probably). The campaign is not your average story due to its switching of characters, various landscapes and areas, something overlooked by most games today glamorising an invincible warrior capable of taking not just several bullets and explosions to the face but being lucky enough to avoid the eventual truth that people kill and get killed. Make the connections where you like, my point is that this game genuinely is far more realistic than some of the games on the market. Do we play games for realism? not necessarily, some try to escape it but others rely on it. Sure you'd have to be wearing a butt load of Kevlar and be one lucky s.o.b to take several rounds from an AK47 and live, sure not all troops get the insane amount of air support shown nor the weapons and funding, but its those kitsch additions that can make this game special, enjoyable to say the least. That and the plot is basically USA vs. USSR. Sounds pretty awful when you hear that you have to be Americans and fight the Russians. Lucky for us all, that's hardly the case considering the U.S is pretty much getting rinsed throughout the game. That and there is a nice touch (if rare) of hearing the odd accent of the British. We get enough of the bold & brash American commando linguistics in films, thank you very much. Special Ops is a very welcome game mode, replaying some of the games high points with the option to play with friends. There is some real fun to be had sniping countless enemies with the cover of a snowy forest, atop a well equipped tower or wherever the hell you like really. Snow mobile races are usually a laugh too, hurtling down a mountain weaving in and out of forested wilderness. However, if you'd rather just burn through countless clips of ammo, fighting your way through hordes of soldiers then no fear, this game caters. The downsides are of course, online multiplayer with numerous screaming/swearing children from the U.S - mute them - then its as addictive as halo3. Another is the campaign is too short with roughly 10-15 hours of a first time play through on regular difficulty. If you're going to be a bit harsh, you could say the fighting is bias considering the enemies can cover efficiently, merely raise a gun to fire without exposing themselves to gunfire, whereas you must hope you didn't overdo it on the ol' analogue stick. A minimal negative but still questionable. So, top notch action - check quality multiplayer modes - check over the top weaponry and slow mo - double check perfection? - "close, but no cigar" (Don Corneo, perverted fat man, wall market)

Son locked in dark room screaming for more ammo.

This game must be good. Since I bought it for my son I havent seen him. It's been a warm summer and he has is brilliant white and has lost weight. He is developing a twitch and has arthritic hands.

Best Game For PS3 and Xbox360 !!!

Rated Rated 5 out of 5 by jemeel el on 27th August 2010

I first thought that this game would be just like any other first person war game... But it's with no doubt my favourite game of all ..the online feature is very entertaining and there's lots of competition ! There's also an ofline multiplayer split screen mode with lots of missons and co-op modes. there's just too much to talk about for this game,my advice..buy it ! you wont regreat it !

The best FPS bar none!!

Rated Rated 5 out of 5 by MagyarMatt, UK on 26th August 2010

Ok that's quite a bold statement to make in my title and a good few of you are probably screaming rubbish at your screen, but let me tell you why. I'm going to use some comparisons with Bad Company " here as I have also played it extensively and it seems to be this games main rival. This review is going to focus solely on mulitplayer so if you want to know about single player and co-op then skip to another review. Control:- Control in COD is slick and easy, and getting stuck on scenery is a minimal problem, this in stark contrast with BC2 'fidgity' controls. I can't seem to find a sensitivity on that I like and trying to climb through and over stuff as well as going up stairs can be a little awkward. Spawning:- COD's spawn system is much better than compared to BC2 where Spawn killing, camping is a problem as well as the annoying habit of other people suddenly spawning in next to someone you are shooting at just as you run out of ammo. Gameplay:- Yeah BC2 is nice with it's destructable environment and big maps, but I like the compactness of the COD maps as well as the fact it's for the majority you and a gun which is surely what a FPS is all about at it's roots. No blowing apart a building with a tank or helicopter to get to the bad guys, you've got to get in their up close and personal for some good old intense CQB!! Yes BC2 has the realism but COD has the intensity, you are never far from the action. Although COD multiplayer is pretty much all team based there is not such the dependency on your team mates like you have in BC2, you can get along just fine on your own. You'll also probably hear people complaing about perks like people with lightweight and commando pro, running into a hail of your bullets and stabbing you. For the optimal most fun and challenging experience in this game I recommend that you play hardcore mode only, which eliminates the effectivness of most of the things that annoy gamers in COD. The one massive downside to this game however is the fact that in most on-line modes you have game chat only, no party chat, so if your friends are on something else, even a different game mode on MW2 you cannot talk to them, very annoying. Killstreak rewards are nicely varied and also easy to deal with, if you have the right class setup. I like the way you can unlock various titles and badges to show off your ingame acheivements. Nice vairety of maps although the downloadable content has rightly been criticised for being overly expensive given that some of the mpas you get have been pulled from COD4. The time waiting between games can also be frustratingly long as people jump in and out of the lobby or skip maps. Levelling up is always fun and you can get your hands on most of the good stuff fairly quickly. This gives it great accesibility for the casual gamer as opposed to BC2 where it takes a fair bit longer. So this is essentially the best, most fun FPS because. Controls are 'smooth' and responsive. Intense action. Accessibilty (can play equally well alone or with team co-operation) Plenty of class setups (compared to BC2) Better Spawn system (Compared to BC2) Call of Duty is for everyone whereas I'd say BC2 is better for people who like team co-op and some tricky gritty realism.

Great game, one of the best FPS I've played.

Rated Rated 4 out of 5 by A. Davis, London, UK on 21st August 2010

Having got an Xbox360 to get back into gaming I thought I'd start with this as one of my first games, and boy am I pleased! Ok, so the plot the game is built around is pretty ridiculous, but the game itself is excellent. Pros: The graphics are excellent (I am using a full HD LCD) and the level of detail is amazing. The quality of the graphics makes spotting enemies much easier. As someone coming back to FPS type games after a 5 year break the game is pretty easy to get into, and I'm looking forward to finishing it so I can try again on the next highest difficulty level. The control are pretty straight forward and easily picked up, it only took me a few minutes to get to grips with the controls although i am far from perfect yet! Cons: I have yet to get an online game working, but I suspect that is more to do with my BT Home Hub than the game! Apart from that I have no complaints. So, if you want a good FPS with excellent graphics and some good levels/maps then you could do a lot worse than give this a go.

Quite good. Could be awesome with a good community...

Rated Rated 3 out of 5 by SixthOfJune on 21st August 2010

The solo part is awesome, just incredibly intense, but way too short.. As usual in the Call Of Duty series. Spec ops are quite fun too, even though they can get really boring on long term. About multiplayer, well, could be a great game if the community was not so childish and "noobish". I mean, most of the people I play with keep using overpowered stuff, which is kinda ruining the online mode actually. But this multiplayer will probably get better when COD5 fanboys and people who just discovered COD with MW2 ( basically these are the categories of gamers that make the game awful. ) will leave for Black Ops.. At least I Hope so.

On and off...

Rated Rated 3 out of 5 by Mr. C. J. Turner on 19th August 2010

This game, if you prefer single player campaigns is brilliant, the plot is gripping, the action is incredible and your part in the story throws you into the immersive world of Modern Warfare. The amount of levels however was dissapointing, as i found myself longing for more campaign, i didnt want the campaign to finish where it did. The weaponry covered in the game was very realistic to a modern combat situation however, so you might think the game was close to reality, on any other game mode than veteran you'd be correct. All Completionists will try to max out this game, which means gruelling through Veteran, and, although not as difficult as CoD 4, and no way near as difficult as WaW, it is still bordering on unrealistic during this game mode, which is good if you like a challenge, which i do too, but sometimes it gets too much, controllers are broken, and xbox's damaged, do not buy this game if you lose your temper that easily. Although the above only vaguely applies to single player, it most definately applies to the putrid excuse for multiplayer. My reasons for this outright statement of hatred are purely due to the fact that, even if you are good at these games, you are bound to get angry with multiplayer, i have yet to meet a person who has never shouted at the multiplayer. The shouting entails a myriad of arguments between friends and family, thus, this game has the power to damage family bonds, thats just how annoying it can get. Many say thats only the case if you "aren't good at it" but thats not it at all, id like to say im above average at this game, but that still hasnt saved me from things like modded controllers, boosters and people who find glitches on the map...i rest my case Finally, one final section of the game deserves great recognition, i am of course reffering to Spec Ops, the single or two player co-operative mode whereby you complete Special Operations using the maps found in the campaign, almost as if you had been sent in before or after the campaign events had taken place. I give them high regard as they are very fun to do with a friend, and although they are no match for Nazi Zombies, this co-operative game type really does rely on teamwork, this makes it better if you are playing with a real friend or family member. They were always a good laugh, especially if your friends are the type of people who teabag you whilst you're down. My only complaint is that there isn't enough of them, and that the MW2 DLC didn't include any extra spec ops, as i so eagerly awaited. Thus, this game is average, caught between good and bad for the large parts of it that are good/not so good. I give it a 3 and recommend it only for players who play single player and co-operative lovers out there.

Fun, but not very good

Rated Rated 2 out of 5 by Tamsin Kingwell on 18th August 2010

This game can be fun, and i mean VERY fun, but there are too many cheaters, too many unbalanced gameplay elements, and too many campers. the deathstreak i like, it was very usefull when i first started, and i am glad to see that martyrdom is still there, but the more i play, the less i like this game. i will probably move back to it when black ops comes out, like i did with cod4 when waw came out, and waw when mw2 came out. remember, the cheaters move on to the latest game, so if you want to have fun, wait a year for the next cod to come out. btw, if this mini review sounds a little badly written, its because i am playing cod4, and i am waiting for the game to begin. actualy since i have thought of it, please cod developers, lock people into a game like in halo, having 1 second left for the match to begin, and then someone quits, and the teams have to rebalance is really anoying, also when the host quits, MIGRATE the match to a new host, not just end it.

Involving, brutal, realistic: thumbs up for MW2!

Rated Rated 5 out of 5 by Vincent Musolino, PA, USA on 13th August 2010

Yes the campaign is short; yes the AI can be tricked. But man are you in for brutal, action-packed, involving hours of gaming! - furious action - war-like atmosphere, hardly matched by any other game - you are not alone fighting, which makes the tone of the game somewhat different; you are in a military campaign, or assigned to a special operation - the british accents are a gimmick but do bring some color to the game - Special Ops complement the campaign nicely and are *very* challenging - Online multiplayer is addictive at best Highly recommended.
