A classic game. A classic good quality fun (too old for a full review)

Customer Review 1

Good but flawed. I bought this game with great anticipation, as one who hates the gym and needs to do some regular exercise. Jumping around to the average Eyetoy games is all well and good, but this looked like a structured and more scientific way of exercising. The games are split into cardio, combat, toning and "mind and body" sections, and you can either choose to build and save your own routines or follow a 12-week plan designed by the software, dependent on your height, weight and self-assessed fitness level. There is a warm-up and cool-down/stretch session which can also be added to your session. After several weeks of following the plan, it's been enjoyable and, because of the fairly rigid training programme, has definitely encouraged me to get off the sofa and take part. Your scores are affected if you miss a session, and you get an earful from your personal trainer (who is surprisingly un-irritating). However, some of the technical difficulties and weird internal workings of the game have proved distracting. The need to have precisely the right lighting conditions to play the games properly (otherwise shadows - or the patterned wallpaper behind you - are seen as movement and cause you to hit the wrong thing on the screen, losing you points) is frustrating, as is the game's inexplicable determination of the difficulty level you're on - even when scoring quite highly, it will put you back down a level for no apparent reason. The music's good, although there is only a choice of two tracks for each game, which after a few weeks gets quite dull. There are only 4 games in each of the cardio and mind & body sections, which after playing 4 or 5 times a week for several weeks also gets a bit boring. In terms of fitness, I've found that the toning and combat sections have been challenging and motivating. The mind and body games are quite fun, though not especially testing, but some of the cardio games involve a level of precision which makes you stop and start quite a bit to make sure you hit the right thing. I'm hardly super-fit, but my heart rate has struggled to get above 130 on some of them, which obviously is missing the point. So overall enjoyable, and a good motivational tool, but best used with some non-PS2 sport for real improvement.

Customer Review 2

Eyetoy :Kinetic gets my thumbs up. I really loved this game. I have never being a fan of going to the gym or infact exercise videos\dvd but this was definitely my cup of tea. Did the first 12 weeks but did not progress up the level cause I missed the last one and I was so gutted cause its a very grilling workout. There were days I could not be bothered but most days I was well up for it and it did pay off. The toning tai and yoga bit are very good. I like the fact that stretchs and cool downs are included so work out can be done safely. LIghting and space is definitely an issue and if you do not get it right it really makes the whole session frustrating but I would not rubbish the game all the same. If you are looking for workout routine that gives you more flexibility than the opening hours and equipment a gym can offer I would totally recommend this. For the amount of money I paid for this to use on my son's ps2 console its money well spend and I can proudly say its the best thing I bought for me this 2006.

Customer Review 3

For a half hearted gym bunny, not half bad. Love jumping round my very small living room trying not to punch things off shelves and really appreciate the proper gym instructor guidance in the warm up/cool down & toning. Upsides: reallyinnovative, lots of fun, great for getting you jumping around in the privacy of your living room. Downsides: you really need more space than that provided by a small 2 up 2 down, and it's quite hard to schedule yourself 30 continuous mins of cardio (I didn't use the programme). I found the light levels/contrast a bit of a problem in my white front room (I am pale skinned) but this was improved when I started wearing black gloves to work out! On balance, give it a go, made me sweat & laugh which can't be bad.

Customer Review 4

Absolutely brilliant, and it works. I was becoming a couch potato and had tried exercise machines and got bored after a couple of weeks. I knew that to keep exercising I needed something to keep my interest. This game is great. I completed the first 12 week program and am on to the next now. I love it and cant wait for my husband to go out so that I can use it. It has warm ups and cool downs. It designs a program based on your current fitness level and age and weight and your personal trainer keeps you going. If you miss it tells you off. If you do well you are praised, and you do different game/exercises each time. The exercises cover aerobic, combat (muscle toning), specific area toning and mind and body such as tai chi type exercises but also meditation and yoga. Saying this it does have some flaws. The lighting has to be good. I have a security light which I use on an evening. Daytime is better. Also you do need to have enough room to swing a cat. The lens allows you to be a bit nearer than normal but you still need to be able to stand far enough away. If you miss the final exercise it will not set you a follow on program (I changed the date of my consol so that I could finish). But I have to say I have never stuck to exercise for 3m before and I feel a hundred times better than I did. So give it a go. If nothing else your family/friends will be in fits of laughter watching each other do the exercises.
