Riding the subway in New York at two o'clock in the morning, Reacher knows the twelve giveaway signs to look out for. Watching one of his fellow-passengers, he becomes sharply aware: one by one, she ticks off every bulletpoint on his list.
Plumbing new depths not seen since Echo Burning this is devoid of imagination and left me completely disappointed, I love most of Childs other books (Echo Burning ,the one about the paint in the bath and the one with human trafficing in the desert and burnt out tanks withstanding!) this is shocking though! Potential terroist attack in New York, shockk horror! Formulaeic and merely writing by numbers, his worst yet smacks of laziness and complaceny. Thats 3 rubbish books in an otherwise good series
This pretty much stays to the formula of all the other books with Jack Reacher. The books moves along at a good pace with some nice twists & turns in the story which keeps you guessing. My only criticism was the whole "suicide bomber" premise which is a bit weak in an otherwise strong outing for Jack R!
Lee Childs books have one problem you just cannot but them down, Fantastic story teller.
If you've readr a Reacher novel before and enjoyed it, you will not be disappointed with this one either!
This is a very entertaining novel in the Jack Reacher series. Pacy, exciting, daft but plausible plot, a great read. Should come with a warning - once you start reading you will want to keep going. A real suspension of disbelief takes place and for those who like the tough guy genre (McNab, Ryan, Cornwell) it is a good buy. Leaves you wanting to read another!
Lee Child has revived the Reacher series with this exciting New York city based novel. Jack uses more brain than brawn here to uncover a convoluted plot involving US military cover ups and political intrigue. One of his best openings to his books as well.
I'm a big Lee Child fan but recently I've found some of his books to be not quite up to scratch! I had almost decided to give up on him but decided to try this book. I'm pleased to say that I haven't been disappointed! A great read. Keeps up the tension throughout, the ending was really tense and gripping. Child at his best!
Very enjoyable if you are into thrillers. Jack Reacher takes on the world, again, and wins.
Jack Reacher fans will know what to expect. Up to a point they will not be disappointed. But they may feel that this is not the best of the series. Plus points: A gripping opening few chapters; Reacher's intuitive analysis of people and situations; Reacher's knowledge of how many things, including weapons, work; the story's many unexpected twists, Minus points: The over-prolonged final grisly shoot-out; an unbelievable main villain(ess); a perfunctory, patched on sex scene; the need to convey knowledge of Afghan campaigns, not to mention New York's sanitation history, by putting it in the improbable mouth of a female sergeant in the NYPD. Undeniably, the story qualifies on the page-turner test but whether it provides ultimate satisfaction is open to doubt.
Jack Reacher is back on good form. After previously reading Die Trying (which I felt was one of the weaker stories featuring Jack Reacher), Lee Child has bought his hero back to the heights of his first book, Killing Floor. The story is set mainly in New York, where Jack has to use all of his skills to take on the government, law enforcement agencies and a terrorist cell. The book is also written in first person (just like Killing Floor), which brings out the character a lot better than in third person in my opinion. Buy the book. You won't be disappointed!
