The biggest Olympic superstars are back and the only country they're representing is video game land. The team-up that fans could previously only dream of is back, as the worlds of Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog combine at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Following the same format of the 2008 summer games tie-in you and your friends can choose to compete in authentic Olympics disciplines as everyone from Mario and Sonic to Bowser, Dr Eggman, Yoshi and Tails. Only a few disciplines have been revealed so far, but already we know that the game is going to contain ice hockey and figure skating. There will also be new fantasy events such as Dream Ski Cross, which sees everyone competing in a Mario Kart style race complete with familiar looking power-ups and speed boosts. Realism isn't the goal here, just good old fashioned multiplayer fun. Superstar team-up: Only the second game to include Mario and Sonic characters together, featuring the official Olympics license and input from Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto. Worlds collide: Play as any of the characters from the original game - from Prince Peach to Vector the Crocodile, as well as first-timers Donkey Kong and Metal Sonic. Added balance: For the first time in a Sonic & Mario game you'll be able to use the Balance Board for some events, if you have one. The full monty: The new Festival mode lets you play through the whole of the Olympic Winter Games, including all the disciplines and an opening and closing ceremony. Friendly rivalry: Mountains of multiplayer options, including four-player competitive tournaments and co-operative games.
The graphics and animation during start up, for example, look really advanced, however this does give you a slight disappointment because the gameplay graphics don't quite match up to that. Also disappointing slightly is the fact that there could have been more done with the balance board options - why can't you have proper head to head games? The options are single play or team play, which tend to get boring. If they can have team play, then head to head would have been possible. As a result, the software does have a feel of having been rushed to meet release deadline and left with a little still to be desired. So at full price, don't spend your money in my opinion. If it were to be sold at £17 mark, then it might be OK for most people in terms of value for money.
This game was a world of fun, especially playing with friends and family. We played for a long time and didn't get bored. Definatley one foor the books!
As a forty-something, this game doesn't hold much interest for me. My sons have a great laugh when they play it - which isn't all that often though because there's not really enough variety in this. Would benefit from an online gaming facility.
I found this game as an ok. Some sports are quite fun to play but I think this game was more for smaller children than for adults. What's annoying is that you can't get rid of the lengthy animations before and after each event.
my 5 year old and 3 year old love it first game they can play together graphics are great and characters. only complaint is too long loading.
the game was recieved in good time. and the game was in its original wrapping. Its so much fun to play by yourself or with the whole family!
Simply put, this game is rubbish. You spend 3/4ths of the game play time watching the same long cinematic's, reading instructions you've already read, Unplugging and re-plugging in controllers for certain events that do and do not require nun chuck, only to get to the 'event' and be done within literally 25 - 30 seconds (because that's how long an event lasts.) Que the next event with the same process. I do not recommend anyone to buy this game. It is more for the family market however I would not describe it as a game kids will enjoy. I'd like to give the game no stars however that is not possible on this site. The visuals are decent, no complaints.
Bought this for my grandson for Christmas and we all had a great time playing it. Some sports are more difficult than others and require a bit of practice. Strangely enough I found I was excellent at figure skating! Enjoyed it so much that I got the game for ourselves and still enjoy playing it.
Hi i bought this game for my other half as a christmas present on the basis that the last one was so much fun. It didn't dissappoint one bit i highly reconmend it to any one for a great family game. The only thing i find is to get the best out of the game you should really try and have four players because it just become organised caos which is so funning. Hope this helped
My six year old boy loves this, adults love it too. Everyone can join in a game that's easy enough with practice. I would recommend this, not too bad a price.
