Recommended by my miscarriage counsellor, after two miscarriages, this book gave me reassurance that I was not crazy and self-pitying; the feelings I have had have been felt by many other women. The book helped validate all the feelings of guilt, despair, and anger and gave me a sense that I really was not alone in feeling this way. The loss of a baby through miscarriage is a bereavement and needs to be acknowledged this way. Excellent book.
I feel like I am just repeating everyone elses reviews, but they're so right! I found out I lost my baby 2 wks ago, when i was 10 wks pregnant. I still feel devastated and heart-broken. I didn't need the book to reassure me that it was OK to feel how I do - I don't feel the need to say 'I'm fine' when people ask how I am, when I'm not. It was MY baby, and I will take as long as I feel necessary to come to terms with my loss. But the book did provid the comfort of hearing other ('real') people go through the same things; the feelings of guilt, despair, failiure. I still feel all of those things and more, and i'm still so sorry...Although it makes me sad, I find comfort in the knowledge that I'll be with my baby, my sweet angel, one day. But right now i know that there's a star in heaven looking down on me.Thank you to all those women who really did share "from the heart".
After losing my two babies through miscarriage I found this bok a lifesaver in validating my feelings of grief and despair. If you have suffered a miscarriage and you see the loss as the loss of a life, then I recommend this book. I thank the authors for stopping me think I was crazy for being so sad after I lost my babies. After suffering a miscarriage, most people find very few people who understand their grief, or even their right to grieve, this book understands and validates your feelings of grief. By reading extraxts from lots of different women you realise there are many other women who feel the same way as you do. A truly supportive and helpful book.
Before I found this book, I was in the depth of despair and thought noone had ever felt this way before. After reading it, I no longer felt alone and was able to cope with my grief. I can't thank Shelly Marks and Marie Allen enough for writing this book - you've helped countless people. It's been many years since my loss and since I read your book - but I remember it very well.
I finally found a book that really said how I felt. After losing a baby, no one really understands unless they have been there. It helped me sort through all the crazy feelings and honor my baby. Thanks so much!
The authors have personal experience with the grief of losing a baby before birth. They share their feelings as mothers and as grief counselors as well as the stories of other women who have suffered miscarriage. This book includes coping strategies for the parents and sibligs of the lost child. Very personal, warm, support. Good advice.
I read this book shortly after the loss of twin boys at 18 and 19 weeks gestation. Thoughts that I believed were mine alone were not. It's amazing to read in print things that have raced thru your mind a thousand times. The guilt, the pain, the feeling that I was defective were not unique to me....other mothers knew my pain. I came away from this book with a sense of hope, secure in the knowledge that I would survive the greatest loss of my life.
I thought this book was designed merely to exploit peoples misfortune. It was very poorly written and never should have been published.
After my second miscarriage, I felt that I needed some support and insight as to whether or not my feelings of desperation and grief were rational. This book helped to understand my grief and made me feel that I was not alone. It addressed so many issues and answered so many questions for me. It should be mandatory reading for physicians and health care professionals. I mentioned it to my infertility specialist and he said he would get a copy for his waiting room. I'm beating him to the punch and ordering a copy for him. No woman should feel alone through this terrible ordeal and this book will certainly help to address those feelings.
In a world full of how-to and how-not-to, it was so refreshing to find a book about how I feel. I don't need to know why anymore, I need to know how to cope. My healing process has been so much easier knowing that I am not insane, just grieving, as I should. It validated my feelings. This book is a must-have for any woman experiencing the loss of a baby through miscarriage. It will reassure you that you are not alone in your feelings. Tiffany Herbert Tifherbert@aol.com
