Description

Dazed and disorientated, I looked up from the bright red blood pulsing out of my arm - and into the fevered eyes of the six suddenly ravenous vampires. For Bella Swan, there is one thing more precious than life itself: Edward Cullen. It's just as well she feels that way, for loving him will be a deadly game... Edward has already rescued Bella from the clutches of an evil vampire. But now, as their taboo relationship threatens all that is near and dear to them, their true troubles are only just beginning... The second tale of blood, passion and love that defies all boundaries in Stephenie Meyer's hypnotic 'Twilight' saga.

I would highly recommend this book as I found exciting and romantic at the same time. It is a superb read and you certainly get drawn into the book so that you are unable to put the book down!! Must Read!!

New Moon (Twilight series)

Rated Rated 5 out of 5 by Suzanne Baker, Jersey, UK on 1st March 2010

The book is an absolutely excellent read. I love and have read all 4 of the books (several times over!) from the Twilight series. Delivery was very quick and the paperback book arrived in perfect condition.

nice appearance

Rated Rated 3 out of 5 by S. Schubert on 26th February 2010

I found the book itself a bit boring but the appearance is very nice. especially I like the uncut, kind of yellowish/ coffee brown thick pages. so, even if it doesn't knock your socks off, it looks nice on the shelf.

Lesser of the 4

Rated Rated 4 out of 5 by G. Tuck on 16th February 2010

A good book and sets the scene for next two books. Probably the weakest of the four books but still a good read.

Must read book

Rated Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazon Customer on 16th February 2010

With 512 pages it took a lot of stamina but I have chosen this particular novel because I love adventure and action stories. I recommend it to any person aged 10 up to 15. This realistic genre draws you in and and I lost track of time once. Twilight has some fab description and made me feel like I was standing in the storybook. Full to the brim with Spooks, romance and adventure this novel has definitely won my overall vote for the best book I've read so far in my life. You will encounter werewolves, dark mysteries, vampires and your fears, lonely nights and sticky situations. One amazingly good story which will keep your eyes glued to the page and your imagination wild and free.

Bad role model for teenage girls

Rated Rated 1 out of 5 by Scarlett on 14th February 2010

If you are considering buying this truly awful book for your teenage daughter please think again. I was actually quite disturbed by the representation of women in this book. Bella Swan, as others have said one of the worst drawn characters I have ever come across, is so destroyed by Edward's absence that she literally feels unable to carry on living. She repeatedly puts herself in real danger, treats her new best friend Jacob extremely badly, but worst of all in my opinion, wants one of the Cullen's preferably Edward to change her into a vampire (therefore giving up her life) without any thought at all for her mother, only a passing thought for her poor father and no thought about what she's really giving up. It's disturbing in the extreme that such an attitude is presented as a normal teenage reaction to your boyfriend dumping you. Of course when you're young (and indeed old!) heartbreak is terrible and can leave you an emotional wreck but to come to the conclusion that the only way out of the pain is to die rather than exist without your adonis of a man is, in my opinion, irresponsible writing. If you want a book with a well drawn female lead and a good well constructed and well written story try the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman.

2nd book in Twilight Saga-introduction of Jacob Black

Rated Rated 5 out of 5 by Crazy Genie, UK on 12th February 2010

This is the second book to the Twilight Saga and I have to say for those"Edward Cullen" friends, you've got to be patient when reading this and I will explain it as I go along. Bella, still over the moon about going out with Edward, is about to turn 18. Edward and Alice organize a party for her. However, when unwrapping one of her gifts, she has a paper cut and the blood drives Jasper into his killer mood and tries to attack her. Edward who starts to recognize the danger Bella will be under if she is among vampires all the time, decides to leave her to keep her save. This will only take you to about the first 80 pages of the book and Edward will only reappear after about 300 pages-that's why I have said girls be patient!!! The breakup turns Bella into pieces and she starts to have hallucinations and hearing voices-basically all the symptoms of someone with psychiatric disorder to put it in proper terms. She also starts to engage in extreme sports and driving motorcycles-as she realizes she can hear or remember Edward when doing so. On the other hand, she develops a close relationship with Jacob Black, the son of her father's close friend Billy. Jacob becomes her savior during this difficult time who also falls in love with her. Personally, I think this book is more of a one about Jacob(and the wolf pack) rather than Bella, Jacob only appears in probably two of the chapters in Twilight. The next big part of the book accounts how Jacob turns into a werewolf and the werewolf legends of the Quileute. With his new superpowers, Jacob and his pack protects Bella from the attack of Laurent and the threat from Victoria. I have to admit the middle part of the book does drag a bit but you get to see how the relationship between Bella and Jacob develops. I think it's good that Stephanie adds the character of Jacob and he is one of the supporting characters that I do like a lot in the book. Jacob is a big contrast to Edward, apart from being "very warm" in temperature, he is the kind of opposite of Edward-playful, easy going, probably less mature but still very true to his heart. After all this "werewolf" part, you will be back to the "vampire" part of the story, and I have to say this is kind of like "Romeo and Juliet". Due to some miscommunication, Edward believes Bella is dead and decides to go to Italy to ask the Volturi to end his life. Alice, having seen this in her vision, reappers in Folks and asks Bella to go with her to rescue Edward. They arrive in the Volturi base just in time to stop Edward. However, they also come to meet the Volturi, the vampire elders or royalty who are very interested in Edward's special ability. To please them and to exchange for their safety, Edward and Alice(kind of lie) promised the Volturi that they will turn Bella into one of them. And then the star cross lovers get together again-but this is not the end of it, just the beginning. All the events have put Bella into the perspective and she finally realizes she has to make the choice-staying human or turned into a vampire. Towards the end of the book, Bella puts her mortality as a vote to the Cullens and the majority of them agreed that she should be turned (after her graduation) while Edward objects. Edward gives her an alternative proposal-if Bella can marry him(oh!!) , he will turn her himself when it's time. Storywise, the plot may not be the best among all the books in the series. However, I think this is like the calm before the storm,a transition, laying all the foundation for the third book. It is still a very good read. Although it is a vampire novel, I think this book gives a breath of fresh air, something different to the series which is great.

A good sequel - just as addictive and sexy

Rated Rated 4 out of 5 by Meerkat, Dereham, Norfolk on 12th February 2010

See my review of `Twilight' - again I was utterly addicted from the moment I read the first page and yet, again I agree with the critics and particularly this passage from CB: "New Moon resembles the diary of an incredibly whiney and depressed teenage girl. Its always important to have an interesting and compelling protagonist and this is doubly true in the case of a first-person narrative. New Moon's leading lady Bella Swan, however, is not only boring and irritating but downright pathetic. What we have here is 500 pages of Bella moping and whining and rambling about how she is depressed, and how she has a hole in her chest, and how her life is meaningless etc. Not only is this rather tedious, but its also insulting to women." Yes, Bella is extraordinarily self-obsessed and annoying but the feelings she has for Edward are so intense that his departure causes a complete break-down in her, which is only partially healed by her growing friendship for Jacob. This was probably my least favourite of the four books - because Edward wasn't in most of it (!) - but at least it had a bit more of a plot than the first. Not that it actually mattered - like in the first book, I was just enjoying being immersed in that world again and became emotionally attached to the characters, setting, plot etc until I emerged at the end of the novel, feeling quite dazed and desperate for the next one. I think these are `Marmite' books (if you're not English, you may not understand this bit) and that those of us who became addicted will remain so and those of us who didn't like them will continue not to like them. The answer is clear - if you didn't enjoy the first two, don't bother reading the last two. I felt that the style of this book was more 'epic' and less teen angst diary scribblings - Stephenie Meyers had got into her stride and had a bigger vision of the world she'd created than was apparent in the first book. There are now layers of complications which will run on into the next book (hopefully) and I suspect we are building to a massive climax by the end of book four (all puns intended). Can't wait!
