More of the same

I was a little disappointed by this game. I really enjoyed "the curious village" and has hoped that "pandora's box" would be even better. Unfortunately this wasn't the case. Its still a good game - great graphics and amusing characters - but don't waste your time and money if you're after something fresh.

Really good puzzles!

This game is even better than the first Professor Layton puzzle. Good story and good places to visit. Very addictive.

nutty professor

looked really good on adverts , couldn't wait to get stuck in to the puzzles ! just as in the curious village , he does witter on a bit too long in between puzzles & takes ages to get to the point . very easy to navigate though. very good overall. waiting for the next one out in september .

I loved the first professer layton game & was so excited about pandora's box, I thought it was a lot better than the first one. The plot was more interesting and the graphics were better. If you enjoyed the first one then I would definitely recommend buying this one!Im looking forward to the third one :)

Proffessor Layton Review

Rated Rated 5 out of 5 by Kendall on 24th July 2010

I ordered this game from Amazon a few days ago, and it just arrived this morning. Ive been playing it almost all day, and its wonderful. I am a fan of the first game (professor layton and the curious village) and therefore knew that this game was a must have for me. The puzzles are so fun and yet nerve wrecking at the same time, making the game constantly pleasing. A must buy for anyone who enjoys a few tricky puzzles and a grasping story line.

Mega!!!!

Rated Rated 5 out of 5 by A. Robson on 9th July 2010

Being a non-nerdy 14 year old boy I will review this product to help others. OK I will try not to spoil it. The Game starts when Prof. laytons teacher dies. Lots of voice acting and Anime here. A little tutorial thats not to long so if you know what do it is very quick but if you don't know what to do it explains the basics of, travel, exploring, talking to people and hint coins. Thats all u need 5/5 The game has over 150 puzzles and i have done 122 of those in 15 hours. There are no glitches and I have completed the fun, interesting and exciting storyline which has anime, music (not bad) and voice overs quite alot but not all the time. There extra things to do as well like Laytons Challenges, Weekly Puzzle on Wi-Fi (i think it stopped now), The Hamster, The Camera and the tea making (actually Quite fun). Conclusion Fun 5/5 story 6/5 (not a type-o) Replay Value 2/5 I hope this helps and remember to click thumbs up or whatever it is these days

Okay, but not as good as Curious Village

Rated Rated 3 out of 5 by Catriona Reid on 6th July 2010

I bought this because I loved the style of Curious Village, and wanted more of the same. Which is what I got, sort of. The story is carried on from where the first game leaves off, and I really enjoyed this aspect. The science may be slightly dubious, but I was able to suspend disbelief and just go with what the game was telling me. The cut-scenes (most of which happen right at the end) are beautifully animated; however, I still hate the voice acting (particularly of Luke - all mockney, it's horrible) so I mainly played with the sound off, just reading the subtitles. I do wish there was a way to turn off only the speech, though, because I liked the music and found it mainly added well to the atmosphere. I liked the variety in locations, too - the train was a nice addition, and having two towns (one of which was huge!) was great. The side-games were mostly very good. I liked building the camera and the tea-set game. I HATED the hamster game, because the focus was on getting the hamster to loose weight, rather than just get him fitter. I also hated the snide sort of remarks made about fat people (one woman, who admittedly had an obnoxious personality, in particular was mocked as having "tent-like" clothing), and I don't see why that sort of thing was necessary. My two major complaints, however, relate to the gameplay itself. First of all, the puzzles. While many puzzles were good, interesting, and challenging, I found some insultingly easy. I don't mean to say that I'm super-clever or anything, because I'm not, but there were some when I used a hint coin just to see if I wasn't missing something in thinking the answer was obvious (I usually wasn't). These were puzzles that were rated all over the map - from the very easy early ones to the supposedly more challenging later ones. The other thing I didn't like was how the game held my hand. After having a conversation about searching, for instance, a certain part of the town, I don't need an extra box to tell me that the Professor and Luke decided to search that bit of town! I can figure that out for myself, and in a game that relies on exploration, I don't appeciate being "told" where to go. On the whole, if you liked the first game you'll probably like this one. The story holds together and is compelling enough that I couldn't put the game down until I'd solved the main mystery, there are plenty of puzzles (I had no problem completing enough to progress with the story, but there are still 30 or so that I haven't found/solved), and the graphics are good. The side-games are mainly involving, although I find the message behind one troublesome. Is it easier than the first game? Yes. Is it as good as the first game? No. But it's still a decent way to spend a few hours.

super fun

This game is a very addictive way to give your brain a workout. Some of the puzzles are stinkers but it great to get your mind working. The story line is good too

Who is the game designed for?

Rated Rated 3 out of 5 by Sherlock, Worksop on 21st June 2010

The mystery for me is for whom did the game designers aim this product? Some of the puzzles require a good understanding of maths, eg probability, ratios and the like. Which would tend to suggest they were for someone of at least twelve. Yet the game includes silly side issues, like caring for a hamster. Maybe my eyesight is going, but in normal daylight I found it hard to see some of the (necessarily) dark scenes; some of the puzzles' resolution made it almost impossible to complete without guesswork. For example,on one of the puzzles, the screen is divided into quarters and you're supposed to notice the differences in the four pictures! So, the game is for: 1, Someone old enough to complete lateral thinking/maths puzzles. 2, Someone for whom 'cute' animals appeal 3, Someone whose eyesight isn't yet failing them. 4, Someone with enough patience to click on everything on the screen, to gain hint 'coins'.
