Top Amazon Review

Flexible and compact. I bought my sony DSC V1 12 months ago and can only praise it. The photos in auto mode are great if your just taking quick snaps but if you use the full manual mode there stuning, the colour and depth of the photos still amazes me. The menus are easy to use and manual mode is a snip with the jog wheel on the back. The night mode is great fun if you spend alot of time outdoors or at outdoor partys. If you print our own photos this camera will allow you to print upto A3(if you can find a photo printer that size). My only gripe is the battery life, its good for about 150 shots without flash in manual mode, but serriously deminishes with flash you`l also need a big memory card to cope (256mb is good for 190 5mp shots) To sum it up if you want the flexabilty of an SLR without the size or expense this is a perfect camera.

Go and buy it!. Having only owned one low-budget digital camera before I was determined to get the best possible camera for my money. I read a lot of reviews and came up with a shortlist of cameras. I chose this one as it seemed to have a wide range of functions, while still being uncomplicated enough for someone like me who doesn't know much about digital cameras. Coupled witht he fact that it had won some awards, and the price on Amazon is a real bargain compared to high street shops as well (!) I bought it and 2 days later it arrived.I cannot recommend this camera highly enough. It is so easy to use, if you don't know much about digital cameras you can just let it do everything for you in the auto modes, or if you want to get more out of it there are a huge range of different functions to play with (most of which I haven't used yet). You can take shots in a completely dark room as well which can be quite fun! The pictures are fantastic quality, showing great colour and detail, both with long distance and close-up shots. All in all I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants quality with ease of use. You will not be disappointed.

Customer Review 2

Satisfied customer. I own 3 SLR cameras (of varying ages) and was reluctant to purchase a digital camera as I had some reservations regarding the quality of pictures when enlarged. Originally the cost of purchasing a digital camera was an issue. Last year I purchased a Sony P10 which my daughter took to America. Having taken to digital photograpy I took advantage of Amazon's extremely good price for the DSC-V1 (given its original cost) and purchased it. I have not been disappointed! I am amazed at the quality of the 10 x 8 prints using a Cannon i990 printer - in fact my main cost is keeping up with ink and photo paper! Yes I did purchase additional memory sticks, a case, spare battery and fast charger. One can easily shop around for competitive prices for these accessories. I am pleased that I have invested in this camera, I am pleased that I have dipped my toe into digital photography and one day I hope to own an SLR digital camera. That said, there will always be a need to own a good quality compact as they are light, small and easy to use. I strongly recommend this camera to anyone from the snapper to the more serious user. The prints from the P10 were excellent - the x 4 optical zoom is a plus on the DSC-V1.

Customer Review 3

Great Camera, Great Value, Great Pictures. I have had this camera for just over a month and i have not been disappointed at all. I quite like its size, it seems to be reassuring without being large. Sometimes i think that people get too hung up over the size (digital cameras and mobiles are prime examples of this obsession).I think that the photos and the manual controls are fantastic from this little machine. I personally never use any other mode the M (manual) because i am comfortable with the complete control of what i am taking. The positioning of the buttons are very easy to use however the only thing that i tend to do is keep my finger over the pop-up flash but this really isn't a problem more something that you need to get used to and remember to not do. I was surprised at the quality of the picture and sound in the video mode. I really love using this mode and have some good videos. The only pain is the size of the files that they produce, better compression would be good but to be honest you're buying a digital camera and not a videorecorder. I wouldn't advise buying this camera if you like taking pictures of night with action as the flash can take sometime to charge. I would advise a canon ixus 500 or similar. they don't seem to have any charge times at all.I think that the camera as a whole is one damn good piece of kit and to dismiss it would be a mistake. It may not be for everyone but that shouldn't put you off. I know that this review looks quite negative but i have just been pointing out some key things that may bother some people. I love this camera and think that is fantastic however some people may not like it because (mainly) of its size. What you need to realise is that this is a prosumer piece of kit. probably for the beginner. It is more than your average point and shoot. Its 4x optical zoom is also something worth talking about. If you buy this cameraa you won't be disappointed. I dropped it one star because of a couple of things. The time for charging before a photo i think is a bit long and its positioning of the pop-up flash. Nothing maor at all but enough to remove a star
