Great laptop - last year's model though. The Z1SP's a great laptop. I've been using it on a daily basis for over a year now as a replacement for my large desktop machine. It's a nice size, small enough to use on the train whilst big enough to have a decent sized keyboard. The screen's great with a nice compromise resolution of 1400x1050. This does result in small characters though as it's only 14". This size is just a little too large in when flying economy (you need a 12" screen to fit in to the hole made by pulling down the tray of the seat in front), although it's an ideal size for most other laptop uses. The disc is just adequate at 60Gb - I like to carry a lot of music around. One upgrade that I would strongly recommend is adding an additional 512Mb memory module as XP works one whole lot better (mind you I do run a lot of developer tools which just consume memory like it's going out of fashion, e.g. VMWare). A word of warning; buy genuine Sony memory - their prices are 3 times the generic memory, but it does work reliably. The performance of the processor is also fine and Intel haven't really increased the Centrino processor speed - they're up to 1.8Gb after a year.I gave it 4 stars due to there only being 2 USB ports, and for the very high price of Sony accessories such as memory, batteries, and power supplies. The only real fault is that you have to turn off the video hardware acceleration when you're watching videos on an external monitor, e.g. when presenting/teaching. This is easily done using dxdiag. For: Great styling, excellent screen, reliable, reasonable battery life (2h30), good sound quality, performance (even better when the memory's increased to 1Gb)Against: only 2 USB ports, gets warm when working, titanium case prone to scratching (buy the Sony neoprene case), external VGA needs hardware acceleration turned off to watch external videos, outrageous prices of Sony accessories
