A compelling sequence from the best selling author of Night World!
I rated the first 2 books as 5 stars but The Fury & The Reunion were even better so i would have to give it 6 stars! I was not able to put this book down and read it in 2 days (unfortunatly I had to go to work as well!!!lol). I thought Elena has become so much more likeable, Stefan is still very annoying but i absolutely love Damon! Amazing book! Love it!
Great book! I could not put it down... it's one of those books you only put down when you finish it!!
This is the second bind-up for THE VAMPIRE DIARIES. The Fury and The Reunion were originally published as two separate books; in fact, The Reunion was published some time after The Fury, which effectively closes the trilogy begun with The Awakening and The Struggle). In The Fury Elena, alongside her friends Bonnie and Meredith, struggles to control her nature and discover the source of the evil Power that is haunting Fell's Church. She knows that the only way it can be defeated is if the two vampire brothers Stefan and Damon can put alongside their lifelong enmity and work together. In The Reunion Fell's Church is once again being terrorised by an ancient evil. Damon and Stefan are summoned by Bonnie, Meredith and Matt to face down a powerful villain, who is determined to have Elena for his own. I enjoyed Volume 1 of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES well enough, my biggest complaint being that the heroine Elena was very hard to take to. I had little sympathy for her plight, feeling that she brought a great deal of her troubles on herself. In The Fury and The Reunion, Elena is a far more well-rounded character -- someone I delighted in spending time with. Her remorse for her previous actions is genuine and made me warm to her greatly, especially a very sweet and necessary scene with Matt: "OK, so you're here. You're alive," he said roughly. "So what do you want?" Elena was dumbfounded. "Come on, there must be something. What is it?" New tears welled up, but Elena gulped them back. "I guess I deserve that. I know I do. But for once, Matt, I want absolutely nothing. I came to apologise, to say that I'm sorry for using you -- not just that one night, but always..." In fact, all of the characters are stronger and more developed in these two novels, particularly Damon, who changed from more of a pantomime villain who did evil because he is evil to a man who is conflicted over his relationship with Stefan and seems to want to do the right thing. L.J. Smith evokes chilling situations with her flowing and very readable prose. We learn along with the characters the nature of the threat, and fear of the unknown creates plenty of spine-tingling moments. In these two novels, my only complaint was that at times Smith employed deus ex machina to solve her characters' problems or ensure that they understood what was going on. It smacked as slightly lazy, but could be forgiven when the actual story was so gripping. Elena and Stefan remain an extremely likable couple in the world of YA vampire fiction. I think anyone who has tried and enjoyed Twilight will gain a great measure of satisfaction from the writing of L.J. Smith and her version of the vampire with the tortured soul. Readable.
Twilight standard these are not. It was difficult to empathise with any of the characters, and none of them were particularly believable. It is completely different from the TV series, and this is honestly the first time I've ever recommended a TV version over the book.If you are hoping to completely immerse yourself in a good book, look elsewhere. The only reason I carried on reading was a lack of anything else in the house, and unfortunately I bought the whole series in one go.
These books + The Struggle: Bks. 1 & 2 (The Vampire Diaries) I found these book absolutely gripping, having read twilight and the sookie stackhouse series and enjoying them i thought it might be nice to try this series. I was hooked from the start of the books and found them very difficult to put down, I appreciate the differences to the other vampire books and found them slightly more interesting than the twilight saga. There is always something new and dangerous going on and i found myself close to tears at parts. I would strongly advise other people to give these books a try, they are well written, gripping and i loved every second of them!!
Loved this bind up edition book so much, the value in the time spent reading, is well worth the purchase price and L J Smith does not let us down one bit! In these books i would not like to say too much as could spoil plot for others but it is exciting, full of drama, full of unexpected happening, one of the most hard to predict books i have read in the genre. The characters are written so that you feel you get to know them more with every book and i must read every book in this series now! Loved it! By the way great for teenagers and older!
Having read the first 2 books, I was glad that I'd got this one at the same time so that I could continue reading without a break. I do think that the third book is better than the fourth, but still enjoyed the fourth book and the way it explores more into Elena's friends' relationships and feelings. If you are a fan of the tv series, then you must treat the books separately to the show. During the first two books I wasn't sure about the book, as I loved the show so much, but I learnt enjoy the books for what they are and these two books have given me a thirst for more (pardon the pun!). I can't wait to start reading 'The Return' following on stories for this.
the book was bought for my grandaughter, she loved it! and has read all of the series to date! she can not wait for more to be written!
I originally began reading the series as a result of the TV series. However, by the time I began reading these two I had long forgotten the TV series and was really loving the books. The end of the second book left me wanting more, thus I was really eager to see what was to become of Elena. I thoroughly enjoyed reading them. You see Damon's character develop further, the strength of Stefan and Elena's relationship, and you see the brother's join forces to fight against a larger evil, which is certainly refreshing. Other reviewers have compared these series to the Twilight series. I believe that you should take both books for what they are and certainly not compare them, they both have their strengths and weaknesses. I have enjoyed both series enourmously and certainly recommend anyone to read these books, you won't be dissapointed.
Not as good as the twilight series, but an easy read for on the beach
