We Have Sound is possibly the most appropriate title that Tom Vek could have come up with for his debut album. Not noise, not music but somewhere in between, the songs conjured up by Tom throughout this album are nuggets of a fertile imagination and awareness of limitations that delight in their simplicity. The spirit of DIY, from Paul McCartney to Babybird runs through this album, with Vek handling nearly all aspects himself, bar the production. The ramshackle home studio sound that he builds up- the tinny guitar sound on "I Ain't Saying My Goodbyes" or the programmed cowbell on "If You Want" being the most charming examples--creates an appropriately club-footed backing to the drawling vocals that dominate the album. There are downsides to this album: Vek's voice isn't very attractive on first listen, and his lazy, repetitive lyrics could well be enough to dissuade folk from venturing further. Likewise, the lo-fi backing doesn't always do the songs justice, and songs like "The Lower The Sun" and "That Can Be Arranged" cry out for a bit more gloss and finish to let the songs shine through. But persevere with this album and its' contents, and the highlights are obvious.

Listen to it . I've read the cereberal reviews above and have asked myself 'have we listened to the same album?' We have sound rocks, there is no dispute. For me it brings together great songs and sounds in the best possible way. Enjoy

FINALLY !! SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR A CHANGE.... Well this is good . I got sooo tired of these new indie bands like Hard-Fi or The Rakes which dont even try 2 create a new approach 2 music ....But thats besides the point .
This is really good music , very original and what makes it even better is Mr Vek's undeniable skill in using electronics and guitar rhytms and create good songs which are SCREAMING for your attention.
To be honest , it may be a bit dull at times and the low-fi sound doesnt do justice 2 songs like THAT CAN BE ARRANGED and IF I HAD CHANGED MY MIND but otherwise its a very good debut for Mr. Vek.
Great things can be expected from this lad . You just wait and see.

I Like His Voice!. I was a little shocked when people were saying they didn't think his singing is great. I think his vocals are, well, the best I've heard since Paul Banks. Maybe I just have strange tastes. Anyway, I'd like to point out they're only a band when live, and he plays the majority of the instruments himself on the album. It's really quite a fantastic CD; I had an epiphany just listening to "Cover" and "A Little Word In Your Ear", two undeservedly over-looked songs. "Cover" may be a tad melancholy, but his style captures the emotions he's trying to portray beautifully. Also, the line "You'll never get very far with a smile like that" is sung so perfectly! He makes me so jealous...All in all, give it a listen; I guarantee you'll be pleased.

'We have......Something Totally Origional!'. As you get older, certain artists and sounds come along that change and refine you musical tastes forever. Tom Vek is definately one of these artists. His sound is hard to pin point, but that is what makes it so fresh and new. His combination of rock, grunge and programmed beats make both an uplifting sound you can dance too (as poeple were when I saw him live), and a sound you can relax too. His lyrics are fun yet deep, and very origional. Every track on the album is as good as the last, I would highly recommend 'We Have Sound'

We have sound.. Bought some of his tickets for something to do on a friday night and thought i should at least get his album too, and i have to say, this is one of the best and most original albums i have heard in a while. Its got a great sound to it, untouched by anyone but him and recorded in his parents garage, he's really hard to pin down musically as he has so many different influences. Grungy, rocky, electronica is as close as i can get, but you really do have to hear the album. The best track is 'nothing but green lights', but they're all great. Most of it sounds even better live and he's interesting to watch on stage too. Kinda reminds me a bit of Beck.I urge you, no order you, to get the album and go see a gig.Awesome!
